RE: Why Civilizations Self Destruct?
Johnathan Price - The answer to your question is very simple.
See the Old Testament, Daniel chapter 2
Head of gold - Babylon
Breast and arms of silver - Medo-Persia
Belly and thighs of brass - Greece
Legs of Iron - Rome
Feet of Iron and Clay - Rome/Judea
Verses 44-45
And *in the days of these kings* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold.
The kingdom of God was established in 70 AD, at the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. The stone cut out of the mountain is Jesus Christ. His kingdom broke all others into pieces. It will stand forever and it will never be destroyed. :)

Why Civilizations Self Destruct?
Why did ancient Egypt, once the greatest of all nations, crumble into oblivion, where it has remained for 3,000 years?
What happened to the glory of ancient Babylonia, or to Assyria? Where is the splendour of the ancient Persians, or the Medes, or Parthia?
How have the Greeks, the pinnacle of ancient civilization, not produced anything of note as a culture since the fall of Byzantium nearly 600 years ago?
What happened to the might and the majesty that was Rome, once far greater than them all? How, or why, have all of these once magnificent cultures for so long been little more than quarries for museum relics?
Whenever the founding race allows itself to amalgamate with others, it falls into permanent decay. Understanding this is one of the keys to all history, and it is the understanding of the rise and fall of all great cultures.
You can deny it. You can rant and rave. You can scream. You can cry "hate" and utter blasphemies. You can make railing accusations. But you can't change the truth.
America is now following in the footsteps of these ancient empires. It's absolutely true. The evidence is all around you. History does indeed repeat itself, again and again because people refuse to learn from it.
